Vat 69

It was her special day and I wanted to make it all the more special if I could.

Got her a lovely gift, which shocked more than surprised her. :-)

Words cannot do justice to what she means to me and never will either.

Some nice memories of the day and one more milestone crossed.

For the first time ever, a cake and a camera were both present at the right moment!

Life Ne Crazy Kiya Re!

What a week...make that the whole month in fact...its been a pile load of highs and lows. Been going through a whirlwind of emotions, and the mood has been swinging like a pendulum...kabhi high tide, kabhi low tide...it's simply crazy!

The lows last week:

S Aunty left us. Not an immediate blood relative, but the bond was closer than one. Just goes to show that blood is not thicker than water. And that adages are not true after all. Her no-nonsense strong attitude might have given off the wrong vibes and for most of my life, I didn't like her one bit. Around 6-7 years ago, that changed completely to a feeling of respect and gratitude. She was loved by each member of my family for her strength, courage in the face of adversity, and positive thinking. She opened her heart and home to me in my hour of need, and for that I am eternally grateful. That gratitude, however, is nothing compared to the respect I have for her and her husband, for being themselves. There are so many others in the clan that are older and are still around, why did He take you away from us? If it was to deliver you from the last days of your suffering, then it was probably a good thing. We are selfish in wanting you with us, but hope you are in a happier place. Miss you terribly, aunt S.

The highs last week:

The funeral was on the morning of my birthday and it sorta did me in. The highs fanned out eventually when happiness flew in from unexpected quarters...old pals that am not regularly in touch with, and would never have expected them to wish me, let alone remember my birthday, made their presence felt. Newer, more recent friends that have come to mean a lot despite the distance between us, in more ways than one, almost completely turned the day around with surprises galore. I was deeply touched and very very thrilled at the same time. Given my topsy turvy emotional state of mind of late, it was havoc, but of the very pleasant kind.

Some neat gifts and cooler memories boosted my sagging spirits. Affection demonstrated is the most amazing pill that medicine can never ever compete with. The day ended with a dinner where everyone turned delinquent and created a ruckus in a posh eatery. Fun times fo' sho'! :-)

The other high last week was meeting an online pal at her wedding reception. There couldn't have been a better occassion to get together. In short, it was grand! Have met quite a few online pals over the years, and many still to meet (some goal, that!), but this was special, and she knows why :-) The experience brought me immense joy and a high of a different kind.

Congrats once again, Sash and Viv! Let's toast to happier occassions to get together again in the future! Yes, the toast can be OJ only :P

The lowest of lows and very cool highs all in the span of a few days! That too, in quick succession...wonder what God is trying to tell me. Not sure if I'll even pick up the many signs correctly...let alone read, comprehend, and imbibe them.

Inshaallah, clarity will come forth, today or tomorrow! Wishful thinking?

Spaced Out!

That's the over-riding emotion since eons now....feel pretty spaced out! The last few months have been an emotional roller coaster ride, literally and figuratively as well.

It was a fitting tribute to my present state of mind and so a visit to an amusement park was mandatory. The child in me came out to the fore as I had the silliest smile plastered on my face while riding up and down the crazy rides, butterflies in tummy and all! The water ride was obviously the most fun, getting splashed on was heavenly!

This pic was taken on a visit to NASA sometime ago. Lego was one of my fave childhood play things. This space-suited astronaut is made entirely of Lego pieces. Used to spend hours with my Lego set, I even had a family -- a father, mother, and kid complete with living room and kitchen furniture! The toy sideboard even had little LP records with covers! Awfully cute indeed.

The amusement park had giant toadstools that you could climb through, and even a giant shoehouse to boot (pun intended). The only regret is that I am now too big to go inside the shoehouse and come out down the slide! :P

Whenever I come across incidents that trigger nostalgic memories of my childhood days, I regress back into kid mode. Am still a big kid at heart!

Childhood was filled with Enid Blyton's fantasy lands and fantastic characters, splashing about for hours in swimming pools, and playing hide-n-seek with the gang for hours on end seem like eternal bliss right now as compared to the topsy turvy ride adulthood has seen me through.

Why, o' why did I ever grow up? :(

Merry Christmas & Season's Greetings Ya'all ! :-)

'Tis the season to be jolly! Warning: Cheesy post ahead :D

As a kid I totally loved Christmas trees -- the twinkling lights, the pretty decorations, colorfully wrapped up presents, and the angel or star at the top. It was fascinating and almost magical. Enid Blyton played a hugely influential role in keeping my childhood magical and in fantasy land for the times I lost myself in her wonderful words. My close friends would invite me over for X'mas and it was such fun! There are tons of wonderful, cherished memories associated with this festival for me.

In my teens, this classic song 'Do They Know Its Christmas?' by Band Aid was very special. A song I love till date. It was recorded for the starving children in Africa and had the biggest bands and singers of the 1980s contributing and being a part of it.

The other carol that I learnt at school choir went something like this:
"Christmas time is a jolly time, there are lots of things to be done,
And putting the decorations up, is lots and lots of fun!"

My first tryst with snow was only as an adult when I was visiting the USA. I was excited that my first Christmas there was going to be a white one. Alas, the anti-climax was that it didn't snow in December at all! There was some snowfall only toward end January. After reading all about snowflakes-their shapes, snow angels, and my comic heroes (like Calvin, Snoopy and gang) make snowmen and have snowball fights, snow didn't impress me much. It was pretty much just cold ice, and not fluffy and soft as I'd always imagined! :P

A very beary Christmas to everyone out there! Its the time to snuggle up to your
loved ones and tell them how much you love them. Well, I don't believe there's a special time or day to do that, it should be done as often as possible, and then some more! :-) But as they say, 'tis the season to be jolly', so ho ho ho!

Special wishes go out to a few of my friends who have officially ventured into couplehood or couple status :)) -- RT, Sash, and also SG, you can count yourself in here too! :D There's also Virdi & Trups and many others not on blogistan -- will deliver those wishes personally :-)

Things haven't been going great for myself lately, and I need to remind myself to keep them spirits up, so here's wishing me, my family and friends some peace, light, and good cheer for the new year ahead.

After an overload of "Xmassy" pics, all I'd like to end with this:

Hallelujah!! :D

Dhoom Dhamaka? More like Damp Squib!

This time it wasn’t a blind date, more like blind hate! Ah well, nothing extreme actually, Dhoom 2 hardly warrants anything extreme, other than of course, the screams that Hrithik evoked each time he showed up. :D

This movie totally defies any logic whatsoever. There are no explanations for almost any of the sequence of events, but Dhoom never claimed to be an intelligent film when its tom-tommed to be all about bikes and babes.

Review of the cast

Hrithik: Hunkiest of all of them hunks! Helllooo sailor! :D

Bips: Bootylicious bod!

Baby B: Bearded and Bleh!!

Uday Chopra: Ughhh!!

Ash: Last and the least impressive, and ATROCIOUS!

Did I mention how hot Hrithik looked? Hehehehe! The pirate look so suited him. My straight guy cousin says Hrithik’s so hot, even straight guys are keeling over at the way he looks in this movie.

A for Amazing Aryan…loved that signature A font. Neat. Absurd Ash and her nonacting antics were too funny to watch. Bips and Hrithik are way cool, are drenched in attitude from head to toe, and should have been paired up. Ash tries way too hard and it shows. And how. Tsk tsk. Her walk down the boardwalk by the boats was hilarious. Too-high heels don’t do nothing for her really awkward poses. It was a boardwalk, not a ramp, sweetheart! Baby B looked like a fat cow next to toned Hrithik. Why, o why did they make him dance in a sequence soon after Dhoom Again? Sad, real sad indeed. Both Ash and Baby B can commiserate and cry on each other’s shoulders. Is that what they were doing in temples across India? :D

Review of the movie

Sheer Bakwaaaaaaaaas! :D

Even without the cool stunts, people in the theater were whistling whenever Hrithik appeared on the big screen. All he had to do was walk into the frame and the ceetees were bajaoing! :D

Music--Terrrrrible, horrrrrible songs barring Dhoom Again. Crazy Kiya Re really got my goat when it appeared in tv trailors, but guess it grows on you eventually. Was speechless during the Uday Chopra song on the beach…gawwwwddd! What was that??? Horrrrrendous!

All in all, MTV’s Ghoom is far superior to its non-spoofed version! ;)
